Do You Love Your Librarian?

Nominate Your Librarian

Librarians in our nation’s 123,000 libraries make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans every day. Now is your chance to tell us why we should shine the spotlight on a librarian at your public, school, college, community college or university library. Nominate your librarian for the Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award!

Up to ten librarians will be honored. Each will receive $5,000 and be recognized at an awards ceremony hosted by The New York Times at TheTimesCenter in December 2009.

Nominate a librarian in one of three categories:

public librarians

school library media specialists

college, community college, or university librarians.

Nominations close Oct. 9, 2009.
All winners will be announced in early November.

Tough Economic Times

The total loss of state aid for Lancaster County Libraries will be $54,140.

The cut from Lancaster County is slated to be $150,000.

The grand total of loss of government aid could also include municipalities.

International Award with Lancaster Connection!

In one of our first posts at the beginning of this blog, we talked about the American Library Association's annual special prizes for children's books, the Caldecott and Newbery Awards.

Find a fall favorite...

I know, I know, that summer isn't even here yet. But, you can pick now to find a new favorite book for fall.

Every year, as part of the American Library Association's "Teen Read Week" in October, they nominate 25 new teen books for the annual "Teens Top Ten" list. Teens from around the country vote to pick the winner.

ALA Announces Winning Books

The American Library Association made news today! It announced the 2006 winners of the Caldecott and the Newbery Medal. The Caldecott Medal recognizes outstanding art in picture books while the Newbery Medal recognizes an outstanding work of juvenile fiction.

This year's winners are:

Caldecott: "Hello, Goodbye Window" illustrated by Chris Raschka

Newbery: "Criss Cross" by Lynne Rae Perkins
